 UNDERGRADUATE PETITION FOR THE HONORS PROGRAM IN POLITICAL SCIENCE

Instructions:

Please complete this form and submit to the Department of Political Science office -  SSPB 5223 or SSPB 5229.

Admissions:

Admission to the Honors Program is open to students who meet the following criteria:

1)

Minimum of 3.5 GPA in political science courses prior to beginning honors thesis, and a 3.2 GPA overall

2)

During the year prior to the year in which the thesis will be written, enroll in either an upper-division political science course or a PS 199 “Independent Reading” course with a faculty member, who may be the student’s potential thesis supervisor.

3)

Complete an application to the program; this includes the signature of a faculty member who is willing to supervise the student’s thesis.  Applications should be submitted during the Spring quarter of the student’s junior year (or the year before they intend to complete the honors thesis).

Active status in program:

The student’s active status in the program is contingent upon a written senior thesis proposal signed by a permanent faculty member who agrees to serve as thesis advisor.  The senior thesis proposal must be filed with the Department and the Undergraduate Counseling Office (SST 370D).

Complete H182A “Honors Thesis Workshop” in the Fall quarter of the year in which the student plans to complete the thesis.

Enroll in PS 190 “Senior Thesis” during each quarter of the year in which the student plans to complete the thesis.

Complete the thesis, which must be signed by the thesis advisor and filed with the department office.

Upon completion of the senior thesis, the student graduates with “Honors in Political Science."
